international cooperation
global network of ageing surveys
share´s global sister studies
this project strengthens the cooperation with a global network of other ageing surveys tackling the same issues relevant for individual and population ageing such as health, disability, retirement, active ageing, family and social support. the global network of ageing surveys (called “sister studies” altogether) consists of “parent surveys” and “daughter surveys” with respect to share, the survey of health, ageing and retirement in europe, a multidisciplinary and cross-national panel database of micro data on health, socio-economic status and social and family networks, coordinated at mpisoc. the “parent surveys” have been started earlier than share and have influenced the design of share, namely the us health and retirement study (hrs) and the english longitudinal study of ageing (elsa), while share has strongly influenced the design of the japanese study on aging and retirement (jstar) and other “daughter surveys”. the project is funded by a grant from the us national institute on aging.
harmonized data
gateway to global aging data
g2aging - gateway to global aging data
the gateway to global aging data is a data and information platform developed to facilitate longitudinal and cross-country analyses on aging, especially those using the family of health and retirement studies (hrs) around the world. the gateway indexes and extensively documents study designs and survey questionnaires. so far, the gateway has catalogued surveys from 18 studies in 45 countries from 1992 to 2020. additionally, for many of these surveys, the gateway also creates and releases harmonized datafiles which are comprised of variables representing a subset of the original survey data and have been defined to be as comparable as possible across different studies. the gateway is funded by the national institute on aging and all data and documentation are available to researchers without cost.
rand research on aging and longevity
rand - rand corporation
the number of older adults continues to increase in the united states and around the world. nations, states, localities, families, and older adults face many challenges and opportunities in the care of this population. in addition, how people are aging over the lifecourse, whether aging is equitably experienced, and what longevity means for society are critical questions. for more information, see the rand aging and longevity website

SHARE-ERIC Council
The Council is the assembly where all member states are represented. It is the body having full decision‑making powers, including the adoption of the budget. The Council appoints the Managing Director as the legal representative of the ERIC together with other members of the Management Board, the executive body of the ERIC.
SHARE-ERIC Management Board
The Management Board proposes all strategic and budgetary decisions to the Council. It is responsible for all financial and governance processes which maintain scientific integrity, cross-national comparability, and an overall balance of the SHARE survey design. Specifically, it is accountable for the SHARE-ERIC’s finances and deliverables, and for observing legal requirements such as data confidentiality and safety regulations at the European level.
Scientific Monitoring Board
The Scientific Monitoring Board monitors the scientific quality of SHARE and is also evaluating SHARE from a user perspective. It gives feedback to the Management Board and the research consortium at least once per year. Every two years, the Scientific Monitoring Board issues a written report to the Council of the SHARE-ERIC. This report also assesses the services offered to the users of the SHARE data.
SHARE Country Teams
SHARE has teams in 28 European countries and Israel and is involved in a network of global sister surveys. Every participating SHARE country has a country team located e.g. at a university in the respective country. They present SHARE on a national level and take care of all national SHARE activities.
